This committee is dedicated to strengthening the voices of Indigenous people and creating a platform to raise awareness and transform South Dakota for the betterment of Native communities and the decolonization of this land.
This committee is committed to supporting community members across the disabled spectrum. We strive to elevate the inclusion of disabled people in all communities by advocating for accessibility/accommodations and honest conversations.
This committee pushes for equity and justice of South Dakota's Black community. We organize and mobilize to contribute to the disentanglement of white supremacy and anti-Black racism within the system.
This committee advocates for equal rights and inclusion for individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, Two-spirit, and queer spectrum. Together we bring visibility and fight against discrimination against the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
This committee works to integrate more environmental considerations into South Dakotan communities, policies, and activities, to improve public health in affected areas and promote collaborative problem-solving in the fight against climate change.
Fill out the committee membership form and respond to the questions regarding committee leadership. The leader has to be an individual who holds an identity that is directly impacted by the social issue the committee is dedicated to. Individuals who fill out this section will be contacted by SDYA's Excutive Director to set up interview.
Becoming a committee leader means one will take on the responsibility of:
The mission of SDYA is to provide a platform to as many young people in the state of South Dakota that we can. Others we want to see be established in the near future:
Media Team members create all SDYA’s media content for platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, Youtube, and Tiktok to gain attention to SDYA’s projects and educate South Dakota on important issues.
Publications Team members create all of SDYA’s printed publication projects, blogs, and newsletters by researching and writing content to bring awareness to ignored issues and educate South Dakota.
Board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting ethical and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission. Basically it's a fancy way of saying that these leaders have the executive powers that authorizes all SDYA initiatives and organizational actions
Core responsibilities include:
Qualifications:
The Education Elevation Director is responsible for coordinating all projects that involve educating the community on ignored issues and bringing greater diversity and inclusion within our education system in this state.
Core responsibilities include:

First things to understand:
-SDYA is committed to the health and well-being of all individuals apart of this organization
-SDYA aims to create space for anyone and everyone to get involved, bring different ideas and perspetives together, and make it grow into something incredible
What this means is that one, you will have full control of what and how much you take on, and two, you have total room to build and explore your way of being a member/leader in this organization.
However, here are some disclaimers:
Members- we ask of our members to constantly communicate with their committee leader and follow through with the responsibility that they agreed to take on. Members MUST be totally transparent with their leader if they are unable to get something done or need assistance with something. Our teamwork needs transparency in order to reach our goals. We do not put any contempt against anyone who needs to step down or is looking for assistance (we are young people with a lot on our plates!). Your well-being is our priority.
Leaders- we ask our leaders to fulfill all the responsibilities and duties needed for a committee to be successful in their collaboration and project execution. This mainly includes uniting the team (meeting facilitation) and delegating tasks amoung members (projects execution). We ask of our leaders to constantly communicate with directors for leadership assistance, resources needed, and honesty about one's capacity of task execution. Your well-being is our priority.
Ultimate answer: the answer is what you make of it.
Individuals who fill out a form will be contacted by a committee leader or a director (depending on which application) via text or email. Committee applicants or Creative team applicants will become official members after a leader reaches out and gets them connected to Telegram, the communication platform we use for all things SDYA. Leadership applicants will be contacted by the CEO to set up an interview and discuss opportunites. These individuals are not guaranteed a spot to the position they applied for.
Although, this organization dedicates itself to youth, we welcome and appreciate volunteering participation and collaboration with people outside of our age demographic. We encourage everyone to show up to events we host throughout the year. We ask all supporters to follow us on our socials and reshare our stuff! Lastly, if you got a few extra dollars, you sure can send it our way and we'll use it to fund our projects and continue expand this platform.
If SDYA is something you think that your young loved one in your life would love to get involved with or you believe this is something you need to share with the youth you know, please share! We suggest highlighting our socials or this website. If you really want to go above and beyond, you can print and distribute the materials linked below.
